Rules

A: Eligibility

1.a: Entry limited to production four wheeled vehicles less than 4,000 pounds legal for highway use when new. No motor homes or buses etc. Vehicles must be purchased or not have a value of more than $559.95.
2.a: Drivers must have a valid US driver’s license.  Drivers should also have a valid competition license. Accepted; SCCA, SWMS, VMC, RMVR, VARA, NASA, ASA, NASCAR, FIA. We will also accept licenses from Lemons and chump car.
You don’t have a competition license? Southwest Motorsport will give you a Turkey Competition Membership for $20.00.
3.a: Physical drivers over 50 will need to have a current physical no more than 2 years old. Need a form? Go to www.swms.org look under forms. Competition licenses usually have physical expiration date on them.
4.a: Drivers under 18 will have to have a notarized letter of permission from legal guardians.
5.a: Tires DOT approved street tires with a treadwear rating of 200 or higher.
6.a: If you have a car that has passed their tech you should have no problems with the Albuquerque Turkey tech.
7.a: Cars worth more than $559.99 who meet the tech requirements and want to run the race.
We will allow cages made from steel pipe with seams. Made from swing sets...NO This will be the fun group. They will be exempt from the claimer/auction rule. Fun group will not be eligible to win Turkey group prize money. The 200 dot tire rating does not apply. Run what ever you like for tires. All other team, tech and safety rules apply. If we have over 5 team entries for this group we will take $100 from each entry and use it as prize money. Less than 5 sorry you are just a fun group.

B: Safety

1.b: No passengers.
2.b: Drivers seat One piece SFI or FIA seats are recommended Seats must be securely to the floor or cage. All seatbacks must be securely attached to the seatbase and braced or otherwise restrained
Against failure.
3.b: SFI or FIA Five or Six point harness mandatory. Properly mounted and dated within 4years of race.
4.b Fire Extinguisher 2.5 lbs. or larger type ABC located in easy reach of the driver and properly secured (no plastic mounts).
5.b: Fire retardant clothing full SFI 3.2a or FIA 8856-2000 certified driving suits mandatory. Lighter suits require SFI/FIA longjohns. FIA/SFI gloves, shoes, balaclava, and nomex socks required.
6.b: Helmets undamaged type SA helmet Snell SA2000 or better. Open face helmets acceptable in enclosed cars with OEM or lexan windshield.  No motorcycle helmets they do not have proper fire protection. Bring a SA helmet.
7.b: Neck brace/ helmet support mandatory minimum-foam neck braces to Hans devices and
everything in between it’s your neck get a good one.
8.b: Coolant- water only no additives.
9.b: Taillights and mirrors. Car will have one working taillight at all times and mirrors that cover both sides and rear of car.
10.b: Airbags disarm and remove them. Not sure how to do this? They are dangerous get an expert to do it. Remove steering wheel locks.
11.b: Window Nets not mandatory your choice you can also use arm restraints that attach to harness.
12.b: Fuel Leaks will get you black-flagged.  See tech fix it right 3 black flags for fuel leaks and your out.
13b: Battery all batteries must be properly secured. + Terminal must be sealed in a box or covered with insulating material. 
14.b: Engine firewall holes must be sealed with OEM grommets or metal cover.
15.b: Master Electrical Kill Switch mandatory. Racing type kill switch should be mounted in an easily accessible place to be turned off from the outside the car. Off should be marked with lightening bolt sticker. It will be checked to make sure it kills your motor. If you have an alternator you will need the type that works with it.
16.b: Fuel tanks/Fuel cells original fuel tank or fuel cell both must be properly installed and secure.  Make sure you have proper fittings and venting. The fuel tank area must be totally separate from the driving compartment. If the fuel tank can’t be completely separated from the cockpit by metal panels then a metal encased FIA certified fuel cell with compliant fittings must be installed.
17.b: Cockpit remove or secure all loose items.
18.b: Convertibles and open top vehicles. Drivers are required to use arm restraints and full-face helmet.
19.b: Exhaust system will be checked for routing at tech. Stock exhaust header. No after market headers. From lower connection to rear of car it’s your choice.  1 muffler of any type is required.
No exhaust exiting in front of the rear tires. All teams need to keep the exhaust in good condition (welds, clamps, hangers) so you have no leaks into the interior of the car. Don’t get black flagged over a poorly constructed exhaust.
20.b: Rollbar- full roll cage required. Cage must include: full front and rear hoop, two drivers side door bars, main hoop diagonal two 45-degree backstays to the rear. Appropriate spreader plates 6”X6” and gussets; complete 360-degree welds at all joints.  Crossbar behind seat is strongly recommended to mount harness to giving a 15-degree angle to seat holes.Tubing for cars under 3000 lbs. DOM 1.50” X .120” minimum. Cars weighing over 3000 lbs. minimum tubing size DOM 1.75” X .120”.  Bends no stretched or crushed bends a poorly designed or welded cage will not pass tech.  Rollbar high-density padding to be used where driver contacts is possible. If this is more than your team wants to tackle it is a safety item and does not count against your car cost. Hire a pro to do it.

C: Rules of Race

1.c: Organizer decisions are final. Enough said.
2.c: Refunds or compensation for loss?  None.
3.c: Claming rules are only the organizer can claim your car at the end of the race. So if you have your eyes on the other teams ride, forget about it.  If your team’s car gets claimed the organizer will purchase it for $1500 and immediately put it up for auction for $1700 any profit above
any profit will be donated to a local charity. Yes you can bid on your own car.
4.c: Publicity: Any video, photographs, voice recordings are for the use of the organizers. They can use these on television, radio, Internet, magazines etc. Wanted somewhere? Get a disguise.

D: Prizes

1.d: Saturday’s winner that will be the car that completed the most laps with the fastest time at the close of the first session. Will receive $500.
2.d: Sunday’s winner that will be the car that completed the most laps at the finish of the race. Will receive $700. Second place will receive $300 Third place will receive $100.
3.d: First car to retire under green and not return to race. Normally means your team had a catastrophic failure you will receive $100 beer money.
4.d: All prizes will be paid in US currency of some form, which can easily be divided by the team

E: Clarification of Cost

1.e: Total car cost no more than $559.95 this will be decided by our scrutneers so bring supporting documentation: pictures, bill of sale, receipts from junk yard. Our scruteneers can dock your car laps if they feel you have not complied with the $559.95 total.  Guess what it ain’t that hard to spot a cheater.
2.e: Safety equipment does not count towards the $559.95 total. That would be the rollbar, seat, fire extinguisher, brakes, tires, wheel bearings, windshields, fuel hoses, fuel fittings, tail lights, mirrors, kill switch, motor/transmission mounts. Exhaust system from stock header back.
3.e: Examples of what will be looked at and does count in the $559.95 cost. Turbos, carburetors, parts to the fuel injection system, computers (ECU)
4.e: Sponsorship will count in the $559.95 total so don’t spend it on the car. Buy gas, beer, Expensive motel rooms, helmets, suits, entry fees but not the car.
5.e: Labor cost if you pay for labor it counts. Excluding labor for safety equipment.

F: Team Requirements

1.f: Team one car and 4 to 6 drivers. No more no less.
2.f: Teams will need a way to communicate with your driver while the car is on the track.  Recommended pit board, helmet wired radio system. Not recommended hand held 2-way radios no throwing rocks as it goes by.
3.f: Team captain draw straws, flip a coin but pick somebody to represent your team.
4.f: Transponder AMB  is a must have. This is the only way we have to count your laps and times. The track has them for rent if you don’t want to purchase one.

G: Track Etiquette

1.g: Driving like a Turkey which includes but is not limited to unnecessary contact, overly aggressive driving, UN-sportsmanlike conduct, lack of car control, rolling your car, knocking cones over, hitting a tire barrier, kissing the concrete , passing on yellow will bring you in to the penalty box. This is where the Stewards are judge, jury, and executioner.
2.g: The offender will come in for a driver change and cannot return to the track for 2 hours. You have been benched.
3.g: Second offense offender is out for the rest of the day.  Slow learner.
4.g: Third offense offender is done for the duration of the event. Extremely slow learner.
5.g: Team Offenses not following fueling/driver change protocol, more than one driver ignoring the 1.g rule.
First offense 15 minute impound with driver change.
Second offense 30 minute impound with driver change.
Third offense 1 hour impound with driver change.
Fourth offense sorry put it on the trailer.
6.g: No working on or fueling car while in impound.

H: Price of Entry

Car: $400 each car, PLUS $75 per driver.
Non-driver pit passes: $10/day or $15 for the weekend. Get at the gate when coming into the pit. You will be given a wrist band and have to sign a release.
